SPRING!!!!

Spring!

Spring is in the air!  Birds sing songs of renewing life.  Flowers bloom in magnificent hues of color.  The early morning dew brings a jewel like adornment to the leaves and petals.  These creations of nature inspire me in my creations of unique jewelry for you.

I recall memories of childhood, spring brought fields of wildflowers, butterflies, ladybugs, baby frogs and bees, of which I was stung many times.  Thankfully I don't catch bees anymore.

We can relive these memories and share the feeling through our personal adornments.

Hope you have a wonderful Spring!

Fish "tale" earrings

| 13 March, 2012 20:21

Well, as I have been thinking of spring, so comes thoughts of Minnesota and fishing on a beautiful lake surrounded by awesome people.

I have new designs to show, however, one in particular I have been thinking alot about, my fish "tale" earrings.  And so the story begins:

Quite a few years ago my husband and I were out fishing on a beautiful day for lake trout when to my surprise I got a very LARGE bite, I set the hook and for the next 15 to 20 minutes worked to get the fish to the boat.  We got the fish in the boat, a 10lb Northern Pike! Caught on 4lb test with a #10 egg hook.  During the time of my playing with the fish to get him up my husband kept telling me to tighten the drag.  I too have been fishing since I was a little girl when my father could stand to have me in the boat because I made too much noise, he did teach me alot and would rather work longer to get the fish in than to snap the line.  This is the true tale.

The tale my husband tells, he has two, one is that the fish must have been sick, the second is that I snagged it.  I think ego came into play here.  The fish was hooked squarely in the jaw.

The fish "tale" earrings show what a snagged fish would look like so that he can clearly see My fish did not look like that.

I absolutely love these earrings, they are unique, I don't believe you would find another pair anywhere like them.

Well, the geese are starting the flight north over the house the last couple days. Happy spring!

Viking Knit components

| 13 January, 2012 17:47

Hi all, have been trying my hand at Viking Knit for components in my jewelry.  They are absolutely beautiful in silver, my favorite metal to use.    The technique is more weaving than knitting.  The name came from pieces of woven metal from viking times found in archealogical digs in Scandanavia.

It looks so easy to do but it is not, as it takes much practice to get the rows even and the tension right.  But, with perserverance I will conquer it as I am looking forward to adding some pieces to necklaces & bracelets and whatever else I come up with.  I love to be able to make my own tools also, this technique allows me do that.

Anybody out there that has any tips, I would love to hear from you.  I look forward to showing you what I come up with.

Been gone too long!

I have to apologize to those of you who have commented on my blog.  This year has been a very trying year for me, no excuses, just an explanation:

Early in the year my husband was hospitalized for a week with 2 surgeries with a couple month recoop.  I am blessed to have him.  At the same time we found out our oldest daughter was pregnant with our first grandchild,  how exciting, couldnt wait.  On October 11 our grandson was born, after coming close to losing my daughter from HELLP syndrome and our grandson being in NICU for 10 days, all is well.  I am so blessed.  Around that time my mother started declining from end stage Alzheimers, she was put into the hospital where we were told there would be nothing else they could do for her it is the progression of the disease, my sister and I brought her to my home, with the help of hospice (a wonderful organization) to help her pass in comfort.  Mom passed on December 3 and although I miss her so much, I am blessed to have had such a wonderful mother and that her suffering was over.  I am so thankful for my husband, daughters, sister, all of our family and friends who helped us through this.

It is a new year and I have so many ideas for my jewelry and am looking forward to getting my jewelry out there, I am trying to learn how to get my jewelry in front of more people, I am not technical.  I am working on interchangeable earrings that I believe will be awesome, along with many other designs I have been storing up.   Thanks to all!
