Viking Knit components

| 13 January, 2012 17:47

Hi all, have been trying my hand at Viking Knit for components in my jewelry.  They are absolutely beautiful in silver, my favorite metal to use.    The technique is more weaving than knitting.  The name came from pieces of woven metal from viking times found in archealogical digs in Scandanavia.

It looks so easy to do but it is not, as it takes much practice to get the rows even and the tension right.  But, with perserverance I will conquer it as I am looking forward to adding some pieces to necklaces & bracelets and whatever else I come up with.  I love to be able to make my own tools also, this technique allows me do that.

Anybody out there that has any tips, I would love to hear from you.  I look forward to showing you what I come up with.

Thank you, it was a great project. The Viking knit makes for beautiful necklaces and bracelets. I love the thicker necklaces that can be made with this technique. I do love Big and Bold.

Hey sweetie, I cechked out your blog and it looks like a wonderful project. I am seriously crunched for time right now, but I will send you a page if I can at all possibly get to it. Good luck with the project!
